Nicholeen Asks You!
UPDATE: We are getting closer to having the book. I took some of the great ideas presented here and made a book title poll where you can vote for the title you think I should use.
As many of you know I have been writing a book for a long time about the way I parent my children and govern my home. We now have a possible release date! YEAH! The problem is, I don't have a title that will sell my book yet. Even though I like the name :
Teaching Self Government (Main Title)
Preparing the Family for Greatness ~A Step by Step Guide to a Happy Home (Sub-title)
...I know that this title isn't catchy enough or self explanatory enough. When you think of my material what jumps out to you as the most helpful or catchy concept.
Families all around us are struggling. I know that families can be as happy as my family is if I can get my book widely distributed. This means I need a title which would interest someone at the first glance.
I am asking you for your help-------------What ideas for a title and sub-title for my book do you have?
If you have a title or sub-title idea please leave me a comment on this post on my the blog. If you want to see the ideas and vote for one, add a comment too. After a week I will take the top three ideas for titles and sub-titles and and we will have a final vote. You could be the one to name my book.
PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE AND LEAVE ME A COMMENT! I really want your input. Thank you for your help. The friends on this blog have helped make this book amazing! Many of your questions and comments will be included in the book to help others who are struggling with similar problems.
Keep Swimming,
Nicholeen

Here are a few funny ones I
Here are a few funny ones I thought of.
Sometimes this is what it felt like before we started using these principles in my home.
Parenthood should't feel like a punishment
or
Punishment free parenthood
or
Parenting's not a prison sentence.
Or, "Empowered Parent,
Or, "Empowered Parent, Empowered Child - teaching children to govern themselves"
" The Empowered Child -
" The Empowered Child - teaching children to govern themselves"
I love "Who's in Charge
I love "Who's in Charge Anyway? gaining control through self management" as a title. I agree that it needs to be catchy in order to gain the attention of the potential buyer. I would look in a book like that and check out the contents page to find out if it was just fluff or had some real meaningful material.
I like this one, which I
I like this one, which I tweaked a little:
*A Guide to Family Greatness:
Standards, SODAS, and other principles for teaching self and family Government*
Unfortunately, it doesn't jump out at you like something else might. What about something like "Say OK, Be OK" as the first part, with the same subtitle?
Oh, so many good suggestions.
Oh, so many good suggestions. I like 'em short and sweet (with a good subtitle, if needed). So I like: Changing Children's Hearts (great alliteration!) and Who's In Charge Anyway?
Good luck! Can't wait for the book!
Here are a few more ideas.
Here are a few more ideas. Doing this as a pole would make this so much easier! Anyone know how?

How about something like this:

or
A Family United

As for previous suggestions my vote goes to

Good Morning,
I've been thinking too. these are a few ideas I had in the middle of the night. One of the main principles that jumped out at me is that this type of government is respectful and fair for every family member. The first line is the title, the second the sub title. You could also mix and match them.
* Self Government for Greatness
A respectful approach to family government*
* Self Government for Greatness
Principles to make your home a haven*
*From Self Government to greatness
A Principle approach to family government*
* Fair for the Whole Family
A respectful approach to family government*
*A guide to greatness

Nicholeen,
I can't wait for this book so hurry and decide on a title :0)
Hope this helps!
I have had lots of email
I have had lots of email title ideas I will list them below. There are lots. If you like any of the ideas suggested on these comments a lot, vote for one. Just say, "I vote for ..." I really want you all to love my book!

or Stop the Madness ~ Teaching Children Self Discipline to make a joyful home
P.S. I still want to help
P.S. I still want to help edit, if I'm allowed and you need it. :)
I've been thinking about this
I've been thinking about this and will probably continue. For now:
Teaching Self-Government
A Guide to Leading Your Family to Greatness
I think that in order to
I think that in order to reach a larger audience, the title should use more general terms. (e.g., not everyone thinks of 'greatness' the same way; also, just the word 'government' may turn some off, lol..)
How about "Changing Children's Hearts: (subtitle) A Guide to Building Character and Family Relationships" or something like that?
Can't wait to read your book!
~Sarah Merrill
I am so grateful for all you
I am so grateful for all you teach and am excited for you book! I've passed this site on to many. I couldn't think of a catchy title, but here's a thought for a subtitle:
Giving Kids Power to Govern Themselves
Good luck with everything!!
Someone just emailed me with
Someone just emailed me with a sub-title idea.
They thought:
"....and stop tearing your hair out!"
How about: Teaching Your
How about:
Teaching Your Children
Self-Government
How to Inspire Your children to Respect - A Step by Step Guide to a Happy Home.
I am not too crazy about my sub-title. I will think about it Nicholeen and get back if I have a better idea.
I can't wait for the book!
I can't wait for the book! We've listened to the CD's and heard from you in a HS conference and have used your techniques in times of greatness need and frustration.
The techniques prove to be successful.
I like the title but I'm not sure if "Happy Home" fits. Some homes can feel happy yet still be dysfunctional.
I also think the term "Happy Home" may mean something different for different families.
When I read "Happy Homes" I visualize quick fixes like birthday cakes, holiday traditions, and family home evening. These are all great things but your techniques really get down to the nitty gritty - places that most parents don't want to go because it is too hard or painful.
What you offer are techniques that lead to successful, high functioning families.
Those are just a few of the thoughts that come to mind, they may be too heavy of phrases but maybe that is because we saw such dramatic changes in our children after implementing your ideas. I believe our home was always happy but the changes we experienced led us to greater order, understanding, and communication.
Thanks for all your help! Good luck with the book!
Alison
Hi Nicholeen, I like the
Hi Nicholeen,
I like the name, however, I would scratch the step by step part in the sub-title.
It would read like this:
Teaching Self Government
Preparing the Family for Greatness
Then on the back when you are describing the book you could say something that includes the step by step part - explaining more about what the book will do.
'Preparing the family for greatness' ends the title with power and I think it explains what the book will do.
Hope this helps.
Love ya!
Martina
